PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

A counsellor has an obligation under ethical and professional guidelines to ensure your information is kept private and confidential. As a professional counsellor information that is shared remains between counsellor and client. There are exceptions and a counsellor has a duty of care in regards to these issues whereby to protect and advise authorities is obligatory, and they are as follows:

• Information given about a client carrying out a plan of self harm such as suicide,

• Information in regards to child abuse, and

• Information in regards to harming other persons.
